School Board Votes To Expand Random Drug Testing For Students …
The Adair County Board of Education voted unanimously to expand the student unsalable article testing policy to include members of the academic team, FFA members who compete against other schools, band members and students drivers at its regular monthly meeting Thursday night.
Previously the only students who were included in the random drug testing mere was pupil athletes in grades 6th through 12th and volunteers.
Under the new cunning all extra curricular activities in which a student competes against other schools, or is a licensed driver that drives onto the school property will have to submit to random drug testing.
The drug-testing program in Adair County Schools has 2 years left on the grant that was awarded last year to implement the program.
The school board in like manner received a good review for their 2007-2008 audit report from Mather and Company with only a few minor comments.
According to Bob Dawson of Mather and Company, one area in which the board needed to update their practices was in the handling of the basketball ticket money.
Dawson stated that the ticket sales before and after were accurate bound the commencement cash amounts were not recorded.
According to Adair County Schools Superintendent Darrell Treece the beginning amount of $750.00 was given to the program at the beginning of the season and then that amount was returned to the bank at the end of the year.
Treece and the board agreed that the process needed improvement and were taking steps to keep more fully records.
Dawson also commented about a transaction that took place at the Adair County Alternative School in which a teacher had taken a hinder to Wal-Mart and purchased supplies on account of the classroom but failed to include a receipt from the purchase.
Dawson settled that presenting the receipt would insure proper procedures were followed for the capstan.
However, Dawson stated that staff at the central office complete a good job and provide good records.
The board then approved a change order in the sum of $2,500.00 for act done at the recent Agricultural Barn at Adair County High School.
According to Treece the additional cost came from the use of a backhoe that was used to break from person side extremely hard ground for the foundation and concrete that was used to fill in around the foundation poles.
Treece also informed the board that the district had received a grant for the Lake Cumberland District Health Department in the amount of $25,000.00 to install a walking footmark and new playground equipment.
Treece afterwards informed the board that the paperwork ad been approved and the bid had been accepted towards the paving of the new entryway behind the football field and work could set going whenever possible.
