San Bernardino County supervisor wants to move on from drug-testing issue (The Press-Enterprise)

With talk of implementing a drug-testing program for San Bernardino County's top managers and elected officials entering its back week, Supervisor Josie Gonzales said Tuesday she hoped the various suggestions could be consolidated into a single effort.

Widespread deliberation was ignited last week whereas Treasurer-Tax Collector Dick Larsen publicly suggested a random, mandatory drug-testing program for the county's leadership.

The county's lawyers said the idea was unconstitutional.

But Larsen, harmony the subject alive, called for voluntary testing. Several supervisors countered with their own comments and concerns.

Since then, all five members of the board of supervisors voluntarily have taken drug tests and made the results public. All tested drug-free, county speaker David Wert aforesaid.

At the Board of Supervisors' interview Tuesday, Gonzales said Larsen's intentions were good, but he should have done more research before going public. Any to a greater distance discussion should be collaborative, without any “one-man bands,” she said.
